Octane Renderer

Posted by Jeremy YeoKhoo on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, In : Lighting & VFX

I think this will probably change the world of computer graphics, imagine a render package that uses the CUDA language to then multi-thread render jobs. Results are immediately viewable on the workspace, and the shader network system is node-based which you can edit within the UI. And how much did you say? AUD$200 (thereabouts). Per node. Puts renderman to shame I say.

Only drawback, it renders using GI, Final Gather, (Physical Sun) ambient occlusion area lights... You get the picture, so it ...

Introducing sIBL-GUI

Posted by Jeremy YeoKhoo on Sunday, September 12, 2010, In : Lighting & VFX
Smart Image Based Lighting (or sIBL) is a smart way of rendering your scene using HDR Images and Global Illumination. Rendering processes have always been a bit laborious, but this technique just minimises the workflow when using HDRIs and Global Illumination together. The GUI also neatly has presets. Check out the vimeo channel on the Maya installation of the sIBL-GUI. Quite nfty.

Siggraph Notes on GI across all Industries.

Quoted directly -

"Global-illumination (GI) computation has been the subject of intense research in computer graphics for many years, but it has only recently been extensively used in practical applications. Major industries, such as videogame and film production, architecture, and design, now use GI to produce CG imagery with increased realism. However, trade-offs differ in these applications, so each uses a significantly different GI computation technique.

This course provides an ove...
